I was born and raised in NYC. After a tick bite on the head in the late 1970’s, I suffered from chronic fatigue, joint pains and a myriad of other unpleasant symptoms. I had the classic bullseye rash, which a physician brushed off as “ringworm”. When I lost hearing in one ear in the 1980’s, I was sick of being blamed by physicians for my own medical symptoms. So, I had a hearing test and bought myself a hearing aid. My hearing returned a year and a half later. I was then misdiagnosed with “Lupus”, as well as many other conditions over the years.
In 2013, I had seven additional (7) tick bites in two days and became violently ill. The first physician I saw gave me two doxycycline pills and a bad feeling about Western Medicine. I knew that veterinarians routinely prescribed doxycycline to dogs with tick bites– 100mg twice a day for 30-60 days….so I knew that I was not being treated properly. I eventually found a Lyme Literate MD and was diagnosed with chronic, late stage neurological Lyme Disease, Bartonella and Babesia. During treatments I developed seizures and sudden Migraines and held my mother’s hand while she died of Lyme Disease. I had my brother tested, and he had psychiatric Lyme Disease and Bartonella. He declined treatment. I’m doing better, but I miss my family.
